Happy Tails Homestead offers a variety of horsemanship programs that focuses on developing a range of equestrian skills, not just riding. From solo lessons to group events, we’re here to help create well-rounded equestrians.

SOLO Horsemanship Programs

HORSEMANSHIP lessons: recurring

Program Summary:

Weekly one-hour one-on-one horsemanship lessons for beginners.  Students come out every week to build their horsemanship skills – both on the ground and in the saddle.  Some weeks we will focus on building our skills through unmounted activities while other weeks we will focus on riding.  This is a great way to encourage a well-rounded equestrian.

Total Cost: $160/month

Helmets and tack are provided, but riders will need to purchase their own riding apparel.

Terms:

The Horsemanship program is rain or shine! We will move under shelter or into our barn for inclement weather and focus on unmounted equine activities.

All programs require a non-refundable payment upfront to register. There will be no refunds for cancellations due to acts of God (including weather-related cancellations), natural disasters, or epidemics. We recognize that such events are unlikely to occur; but if one does, we will apply your payment to any rescheduled event.

Leadline Ride:
Once

Program Summary:

If you’re looking for a fun family activity for the day – – this is it! Schedule a one-hour horseback ride on our farm.  These are leadline rides around the property or in our round pen. It includes 15 minutes to groom and tack up the horse and 45 minutes of ride time. 

Ride time can be split between guests if there are multiple riders.

GROUP Horsemanship Programs

Pony Preschool

AGES 3-5

Program Summary:

Build a solid foundation and confident riders!

 

Pony Preschool is designed for children ages 3-5.  This is a FUN group lesson that focuses on both mounted and unmounted equine activities. We use slow-paced lessons tailored for shorter attention spans.  Children will learn foundational skills through basic balance activities, core development, and steering activities. 

 

Children will partake in games, crafts, or equine activities as they wait their turn to ride.  They will also enjoy learning riding skills through fun games while in the saddle. Each child will have approximately 10-15 minutes of ride time, based on the number of students..

 

This group will meet the first three Saturdays of the month, February 5th – May 28th, July 9 – November 18th.

Carrot club

AGES 6-10

Program Summary:

Level up your equine skills!

 

Carrot Club is designed for children ages 6-10.  This is a FUN group lesson that focuses on both mounted and unmounted equine activities to build their skills and create well-rounded equestrians. 

 

Children will partake in unmounted equine activities as they wait their turn to ride.  This may include grooming other horses, cleaning tack, or games and crafts. They will also enjoy learning riding skills through fun games while in the saddle. Each child will have approximately 10-15 minutes of ride time, based on the number of students.

 

This group will meet the first three Saturdays of the month, February 5th – May 28th, July 9 – November 18th.
